In Arlington’s effort to provide great places to recreate, the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has been working on a plan to address the booming increase in pickleball play across our County. We are happy to announce that this summer, DPR will be repainting existing tennis court surfaces at four park locations with both pickleball and tennis court lines (see graphic below).
Restriping will take place in the following locations:
|
|
-
Hayes Park: 2 tennis courts to be re-striped for multi-use, resulting in 4 pickleball courts and 2 tennis court.
-
Fort Scott Park: 2 tennis courts to be re-striped for multi-use, resulting in 4 pickleball courts and 3 tennis courts (one will remain dedicated for tennis).
-
Marcey Road Park: 2 tennis courts to be re-striped for multi-use, resulting in 4 pickleball courts and 3 tennis courts (one will remain dedicated for tennis).
-
VA Highlands Park Tennis Practice Wall Area: 2 practice wall areas to be re-striped, resulting in 2 pickleball courts and 2 tennis practice walls.

Implementation will take place between June and September. The courts listed above will be repainted on a rolling basis with each restriping project taking between 2-3 weeks, weather dependent.
Important notes about court operations:
-
Hours of play: Courts may be used for pickleball or tennis from sunrise to sunset, except when courts are lighted. If lighted, all uses will end at 10 p.m.
-
Reserving courts: Each court will be available for pickleball reservation after it is restriped.
-
Court rules: DPR will install new signage, to help users understand court rules and how play works.
-
NEW Walter Reed court hours: Starting on Saturday, April 29, operating hours for the multi-use outdoor courts at Walter Reed Community Center & Park will be updated to align with the community center’s operating hours. Equipment and gates will be unlocked between the following hours:
- Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Saturday- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Sunday- 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
We are excited to offer more opportunities for multi-use of Arlington’s courts, which will allow more community members to enjoy these facilities. There continue to be great places to play pickleball. Please be sure to check out our new one-stop pickleball webpage for more information.
