Be Prepared Against Flood Risk

Are you flood ready? As part of Virginia Flood Awareness Week, Arlington is sharing key messages about preparing for flooding, including the importance of purchasing a flood insurance policy to protect your property.

• Learn about the use permit for the Arlington Public Schools Career Center at a hybrid public meeting on March 15.
• Join the Site Plan Review Committee to discuss plans for the Bingham Center/Silver Diner site at a hybrid public meeting on March 16.
• What matters most to older Arlingtonians? Join County staff, Arlington Commission on Aging members and community partners for a hybrid interactive discussion to help reimagine aging on March 20.
• Become more involved in neighborhood and County-wide interests through the first hybrid in-person and virtual Neighborhood College Program experience. Apply to the spring session by March 24, 2023.
• Share your thoughts on the draft Regional Fair Housing Plan through March 31.
• Arlington’s latest dashboard breaks down Population and Demographic Estimates for Arlington’s civic associations—test it out and give feedback.
• Tune in to the County Board Work Sessions on the FY 2024 proposed budget between March and April.
• Arlington’s Climate Change, Energy and Environment Commission (C2E2) is now accepting applications for open seats. Volunteer your time and provide valuable input pertaining to the environment. Apply today!

• The West Glebe Road bridge is now partially open to motor vehicle traffic, with one lane in each direction—get the details.
• Arlington Public Library will hold a soft opening for the renovated Courthouse Library branch at Bozman Government Center (2100 Clarendon Blvd.) on March 13.
• Learn about the U.S. Marine Band and its rich 225-year history on March 14 at Central Library.
• Arlington County Police Department is hosting a “Don’t Press Your Luck” anti-drunk driving event on March 17.
• Instacart workers who made at least one delivery in Washington, D.C., between Oct. 1, 2016, and April 30, 2018, can receive cash payments of at least $150. Workers must fill out an online claim form by March 25, 2023, to qualify for payment. Applicants do not need to reside in D.C. to be eligible.
• The P.L.A.C.E. competitive grant program will provide opportunities to communities that have had limited access to programming, education and other art services. Applications are now being accepted through April 28, 2023.

Crystal City-Pentagon City Area Open House

Arlington County staff and members of the National Landing Business Improvement District will host an in-person open house to share information about transportation, parks, and private development in the Crystal City–Pentagon City area on March 27. Drop by any time between 4-7 p.m. at the Long Bridge Aquatics and Fitness Center.
