See what events are bringing in the new year!



eSports

Teen eSports

Come join the wide world of eSports! Teens will learn what it takes to participate in esports and learn the skills associated with them every Thursday, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, 2-4 p.m. at Lubber Run Community Center.

Pirate Party Family Night

Ahoy matey! It's all hands on deck Fri., Jan. 6, 6-8 p.m. during our January Family Night held at Carver Community Center! At this free, drop-in event you and your family can enjoy inflatables, an open game room, and creative crafts.

This program is open to all ages. Youth participants must be supervised by an adult. 


2023

Families Unplugged: Decorative Calendars

Come Create With Us! Join the expert staff from our Community Arts team as they guide you and your family through a decorative calendar project perfect for the new year. Registration can be made online or by phone at 703-228-4747 using Activity Number 730023-D!

Cost: $8 per person. This class is open to all ages, but is recommended for ages 3 & up. Each person (including adults) attending the program must register, and all children must be supervised by a participating adult. This event is held Sat., Jan. 7, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Lubber Run Community Center.

Paint, Build, Create 

This year's annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (S.T.E.A.M.) event will take place Sat., Jan. 14, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Fairlington Community Center. This free event will host a variety of programs for all ages that promote creativity through hands on and observational activities. Find a list of activities for this year's event here.


Save the Date - MLK Tribute on Jan. 15 

Arlington's annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held on Sun., Jan. 15, 5-6:30 p.m. at Wakefield High School. The show is produced by Encore Stage & Studio and will highlight Dr. King's visit to Arlington before the March on Washington in 1963. Learn more here.

If you’re looking to give back over the MLK holiday, sign up to volunteer at Volunteer Arlington’s Day of Service on Mon., Jan. 16, 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at Washington-Liberty High School. 


Babysitting

Red Cross Babysitting Class

This class will provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. During this training, participants will develop leadership skills, learn how to develop a babysitting business, and keep themselves/others safe.  The recommended age for this course is 11-17 years old. The next class is Mon., Jan. 30, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Arlington Mill Community Center. This training costs $75 and registration can be found here.

 


Kids In Action - Break Blast Camp 

During this no school day, enjoy a variety of activities including sports/games, dynamic play and creative arts! Participants must be in K-5 and bring a lunch/snacks. This event is Mon., Jan. 30, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. (ext. 3-6 p.m.) at Carver Community Center. Cost is $37 and $12 for extended hours. You can find registration here.

Friday Night Sports

Is your teen free on Fridays? Then join us at Lubber Run Community Center for Friday Sports Night. Teens can come and enjoy a wide variety of sports activities, including basketball, badminton, dodgeball, volleyball as well as esports. Activities run from 7-8:45 p.m., and you can register here. 


beginners latin dance

Beginners Latin Dance 

Is learning to Latin Dance on your resolutions list or do you want to brush up on your skills? Then this is the class for you! Every Thursday, 4-5:30 p.m. at Lubber Run Community Center, teens and adults can come learn the basics of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and Cumbia - the four most popular Latin dance styles. Learn more and sign up here. Registration opens two weeks before each event date. Walk-ins welcome. 


Teen After School Program

Open Monday - Friday, excluding early release and days off of school; the Teen Scene is a space where teens can hang out with friends and offers a variety of structured activities daily. Participants can choose the days they come but no in's or out's the day of, for safety. Register here to participate in this program at either Thomas Jefferson Community Center or Gunston Community Center. WAITLIST ONLY.


Teens Making a Difference (TMAD): Youth Community Groups

Want to make a difference? TMAD (Teens Making A Difference) is a Service Club that helps students ages 12-18 plan service projects, learn leadership skills, and improve their schools and community.

 

The program offers participants a chance to earn a stipend for work related learning programs. Interested in TMAD? Apply.
