Get Ready for the New School Year, Arlington!

The first day of school for Arlington Public Schools (APS) students is Monday, August 29. APS is excited to welcome more than 27,500 students back to school. Project PEACE to Launch Askable Adult Initiative

Arlington’s Project PEACE is launching the Askable Adult initiative to ensure every young person in Arlington County has at least one supportive parent, caregiver, or other adult—an “askable adult”—in their life. This initiative will launch to the public at the 2022 Arlington County Fair this weekend.

Juror Qualification Process to Begin Soon

Keep and eye on your mailboxes as the Arlington Circuit Court will soon begin its annual juror qualification process. Juror questionnaires will be mailed in August to approximately 35,000 randomly selected residents of Arlington County. 

• Arlington County’s Local Emergency Declaration ended on August 15.
• FREE Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are available for children as young as 6 months old! Visit the County website or go directly to the VAMS portal to schedule an appointment.
• Getting a booster dose is an important step in protecting yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19. Find out if you're eligible for a dose at one of the County's COVID-19 vaccine clinics.
• Walk-ins and appointments are still available at Arlington Mill and Walter Reed Community Centers for older children, teenagers and adults. Visit the County website for details.

• Additional seats have been added for the Missing Middle Housing conversations with the County Board occurring from September to October 2022. Register here and also submit questions in advance for upcoming information sessions.
• Join County transportation staff for a virtual meeting to learn about updates to the Crystal City Metrorail Station East Entrance on Tues., September 6 at 7 p.m.
• County transportation staff will host a virtual meeting to review the proposed design and share your feedback on the proposal to reconstruct 23rd Street South between Route 1 and Crystal Drive. Join the meeting on Thurs., September 15, 7 p.m.
• Share your input for the Digital Equity Broadband Study eCheckup as a resident or as a business to help the County better understand the community's internet access and use.
• Provide your feedback on the Draft Forestry and Natural Resources Plan now through Oct. 3 (formulario en español). Arlington’s Forestry and Natural Resources Plan is designed to address environmental challenges and ensure a healthy Arlington for current and future generations.
• The Plan Langston Boulevard planning team is seeking your input for the Preliminary Concept Plan (PCP). There are many ways to learn about what is included in this report, engage with the planning team, and share your opinions.

• Join Arlington County's Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP) for an online Medicare 101 training on Tues., August 23, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• Learn about solar energy and its benefits for your home or business through a Arlington Solar & EV Co-op Info Session on Tues., August 23, at 12 p.m.
• Is trying stand-up comedy on your bucket list? Join Arlington Public Library for the in-person workshop Washington Improv Theater: "Improv for All" at Aurora Hills on Tues., August 23, from 6-8 p.m.
• Arlington Neighborhood Village’s next Coffee and Conversation will take place virtually on Wed., August 24, at 10 a.m. Join Hamkae Center Director Sookyung Oh to learn more about the organization’s work with Asian American communities in Northern Virginia.
• National Landing Beach Club will host a Latin Beach Party on Wed., August 24, from 5-8 p.m.
• Learn how to save lives in emergencies such as car crashes and shootings while waiting for first responders. Attend a free, Until Help Arrives training on Thurs., August 25.
• Arlington County's public safety personnel are excited to welcome everyone back to school with a Public Safety Block Party on Sat., August 27, starting a 12 p.m.
• Come to Gateway Park for the Rosslyn Jazz Fest 2022 on Sat., September 10, from 1-7 p.m.
• The Fall ENJOY Arlington registration for fall 2022 programs is open to Arlington County residents on a rolling basis, staggering enrollments by class type.

• Food for Neighbors is looking for lead volunteers to support its expansion into Arlington to help Arlington Public Schools middle and high school students who have food insecurity.
• The Vehicle Personal Property bills have been mailed to County residents and are due on October 5. This year, if you have more than one vehicle, you may now see multiple vehicles on one "consolidated bill."
• Arlington County’s Immunization Clinic is open, by appointment only, for adult and childhood immunizations to fulfill entry requirements from Arlington Public Schools.
• The Arlington County Public Health Division continues to respond to the ongoing spread of monkeypox and is offering vaccines by appointment to those who meet the eligibility criteria.

The 2022 Arlington County Fair is here! Come with your family and friends to the Thomas Jefferson Community Center (3501 Second Street South) this weekend for fun performances, rides, and games as well as competitive exhibits, food and entertainment.
