Fireworks Safety Tips

On average, 180 people go to the emergency room every day around the July 4 holiday with fireworks-related injuries. The Arlington County Fire Prevention Office wants you to follow these safety tips if you plan to use fireworks outside your home and know the limitations and prohibitions (including which fireworks are illegal).

Traffic Adjustments in Arlington

The Arlington County Police Department, Virginia State Police, United States Park Police, and Virginia Department of Transportation will close multiple roadways on Monday, July 4. These closures are meant to facilitate the safe passage of large crowds for Independence Day events and fireworks.

Grill Responsibly

With the Fourth of July comes outdoor fun, and grilling has become synonymous with the celebration of independence. However, with this activity comes inherent risk. Take steps to ensure your July 4 weekend is as safe as it is festive with helpful reminders from the Arlington County Fire Department on using open-flame cooking devices properly.

Plan for a Sober Ride Home

Each year, Independence Day is celebrated across the country with family, friends, food and fireworks. Unfortunately, the festivities turn tragic on the nation’s roadways when drunk drivers take to the streets after parties end. The Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) 2022 July 4 SoberRide® program, in partnership with Lyft, will be offered from 4 p.m. on Monday, July 4, until 4 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5.
