The Columbia Pike Multimodal Streets Improvements Project is coming to Segment F! Beginning this summer, the Columbia Pike Multimodal team will begin work to make Columbia Pike between South Wakefield Street to South Oakland Street safer and more accessible for all travelers.
Come learn more about the planned improvements and how to travel around the sites at our Columbia Pike Forward open house events on Thursday, June 2, 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and on Saturday, June 4 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the plaza at Centro Apartments (950 S George Mason Drive) at the corner of Columbia Pike and South George Mason Drive.

 Arbor Heights Retaining Wall
This week contractors are beginning construction of the retaining wall at the Arbor Heights apartments at the northwestern corner of Columbia Pike and South Frederick Street. This project is expected to be substantially completed in Fall of 2022, weather permitting
Work hours will be 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. on weekdays, and 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Saturdays.
- Right westbound lane will be closed at the worksite during work hours.
- Both lanes will be open during rush morning, evening, and weekend rush hours.
- During work hours, the sidewalk between S. Frederick St. and S. Greenbrier St. will be closed on north side of Columbia Pike
- Signs will direct pedestrians to cross to southern sidewalk.
The Pike Sculpture Installation
Installation of The Pike sculpture is taking place throughout this week at the southwest corner of Columbia Pike and South Jefferson Street.
The right eastbound lane of Columbia Pike will be closed at the worksite, as will the sidewalk on that block. Vehicular traffic can use the left eastbound lane. Pedestrian traffic should detour on the north sidewalk of Columbia Pike via South Carlin Springs Road and South Jefferson Street.
The segment of the Four Mile Run trail at the intersection of South Glebe Road and West Glebe Road will close in two phases starting the week of June 6 as part of the West Glebe Road Bridge reconstruction project.
Phase 1: Daily closures of the trail segment will take place the week of June 6, 2022 from 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. The trail will reopen for the weekend.
Phase 2: The trail segment will be closed on the week of June 13, 2022 and will remain closed until Spring 2023.
Detour Plan: Trail users should stay on the upper trail next to South Glebe Road and on the South Four Mile Run for about 0.25 miles to reconnect with the trail. Signs will be posted to direct traffic.

This Bike Safety Awareness Month, the Arlington County Vision Zero team is starting its Critical Crash Mitigation Campaign to bring awareness to some of the causes of significant collisions.
This campaign will run through the end of 2022, and each phase will cover a different aspect of critical collision prevention, starting with bike safety for the month of May.
