Share Your Feedback on the Nelly Custis & Military Pilot Roundabout by June 6

The County is piloting a temporary roundabout to increase safety at the intersection of Military Road and Nelly Custis Drive.

2022 Nelly Milly Roundabout

The goals of the project are to (1) provide safer crossing areas for pedestrians and bikes, (2) encourage predictable vehicle turning movements, and (3) reduce vehicle speeding.

We have been collecting data and monitoring conditions at the intersection since it’s installation in October 2021.

Through this community engagement effort, we would like to learn about people’s experiences traveling through the roundabout and help guide the County toward a long-term solution for the intersection. Learn more and share your thoughts by June 6

Arlington Hosts Regional Street Smart Campaign Kick-Off Event

Arlington partnered with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments to host the Spring Kickoff Event for the regional Street Smart campaign on April 26, 2022. The event was held to generate news coverage around the launch of the regional Street Smart campaign to raise awareness of pedestrian/bicycle safety issues and increased enforcement of laws that protect people walking and biking. Click here to watch a short video recapping the campaign kick-off event.

2022 Streetsmart Event

The event brought in regional media outlets and representatives or police officers from local, state, and regional agencies throughout the DC-Maryland-Virginia area.

Speakers included County Board members and the Arlington Chief of Police, as well as a representative from Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle’s Highway Safety Office and a crash survivor.

Arlington was excited to host this kick-off event and support this important and effective region-wide safety communications campaign. Look out for Street Smart materials across the DMV through the month of May and check out the 2022 Street Smart fact sheet for regional facts and safety tips.
