Did You Know March 13-19 was Flood Awareness Week?
Arlington is reminding residents and property owners to be informed and prepared for flooding.
Many of Arlington parks and trails are in floodplains. A floodplain is the low-lying areas along a stream, where floodwater periodically flows during storm events. Floodplains absorb flood waters and prevent erosion by reducing flood velocities and storm flows, and providing water storage.
You may occasionally see evidence of the stream flowing over the floodplain in Arlington parks, such as water on the trail, or areas of sediment that have been deposited. During and after storms when water levels are high, do not wade through moving water. Six inches of fast moving water can make you fall.
Enjoy a walk on one of our many trails on Wed., March 30 – it’s Take a Walk in a Park Day! With over 49 miles of trails, there’s bound to be one close to you. Arlington Parks Rock!
