Vision Zero's First Progress Update
Last month, Arlington’s Vision Zero team released its first official update on Vision Zero action items and checkpoint for initial feedback to help steer the program. The August report provides updates on key accomplishments for the Vision Zero program within 2021, latest available Vision Zero metrics, and updates on individual action items. Save the Date! Toolbox Community Conversation - Thursday, October 21st
We will release a first draft of Arlington’s Multimodal Engineering Safety Toolbox next month and host a virtual public meeting to gather your thoughts and feedback on the draft. Mark your calendars for the evening of Thursday, October 21, and keep an eye out for communications on the draft Toolbox release and online event information. We are looking forward to sharing this exciting new communication tool with you!
Adult Bike Classes
Have you always wanted to learn how to ride a bike? Or maybe it’s been a while and you want to rebuild your confidence? You’re in luck! You can register today for one of BikeArlington’s Adult Bike Classes. Classes begin in September and run into October. Click here for class descriptions.
Guidelines are Posted!
The Vision Zero Action Plan outlines that the County’s transportation infrastructure guidelines will be kept up to date to reflect the latest safety research, standards, and best practices from across the country, and to include lessons learned from systemic crash analysis. Pursuant to this, the County (1) created a home for these documents on the Vision Zero website so that design guidelines are standards are transparent and easy to find and (2) reviewed and updated five existing design guideline documents.
Help Save Lives - "Until Help Arrives" Training is FREE!
Citizens can play an important role in saving lives in the minutes following a traffic crash. It is imperative to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to help our community save lives until our professional responders can arrive. Anyone who lives, works, or volunteers in Arlington can sign up for Until Help Arrives (UHA) training. This course is provided by Arlington County Emergency Management and the Arlington Community Emergency Response Team, a program of the Department of Public Safety Communications & Emergency Management. Attend this class to learn how to be prepared for and respond to life-threatening situations and injuries. The next in-person class is September 23. Click here to learn more and sign up!
