What's Happening at Lubber Run

We're opening after Labor Day weekend!

Welcome back! Almost all of our community centers will reopen after Labor Day weekend.* We look forward to seeing your smiling [masked] face soon.

 

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday: 7 a.m.-9 p.m.; Saturday: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.;

Sunday: 1-7 p.m. 

 

For hours and programming for other centers, please visit the community centers’ webpages. Please remember Arlington County requires everyone to wear a mask inside our facilities if they can’t social distance.

 

* Walter Reed Community Center will remain closed for COVID-19 vaccinations.

Lubber Run News

Just to remind you...Lubber Run Community Center provides programs for youth, adults and seniors including a pre-school, senior center, gymnasium, and fitness center and multi-purpose rooms for recreation programming and community use. The Center features an indoor track, multiuse court for volleyball, pickleball and basketball. There is also a customer service center offering class registration, facility reservations, paperwork/form drop-off and fee reduction applications. Parking is free for the first four hours. The new park adjacent to the community center is open for use

 

Northern Virginia Senior Olympics activities, including cornhole and pickleball, will take place on Sept. 24-29 at Lubber Run. Learn more and register here.

Update on Spraygrounds:  Good News and Bad

Last call to beat the summer heat! Drew, Lyon Village and Hayes spraygrounds are open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. over the holiday weekend. However,  All spraygrounds will close on Tuesday for the season. Interactive water features will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Locations, hours and more information can be found here.

 

Last Chance to Sign for Fall ENJOY Classes

Kickstart your cold-weather hobbies and sports with our Fall ENJOY classes. Space is still open in our popular classes including Pre-Ballet & Movement 1, Abrakadoodle (Twoosy Doodlers, Mini Doodlers & Doodlers (virtual)), Tot Sports (lots to choose from), Zumba @ Long Bridge and Karate Beginner. Free Native Trees

We are giving away 500 young native trees to Arlington residents this fall. The trees you plant are part of our mission to expand and enhance Arlington’s urban tree canopy. Potential tree varieties available include black gum, red cedar, dogwood, fringe tree, hornbeam, sweetbay magnolia, red maple, red oak, white oak, redbud, river birch, sassafras and serviceberry. Registration opens Sept. 7.

 

Native Plant Sale 

Want to beautify your yard? Then it is time to go Native! We are offering a great selection of plants that are accustomed to local climate and wildlife. See our order form for information and to pre-order your plants online. Orders must be placed by Sept., 22. Pick-up day is Sat., Oct. 2, from 1-4 p.m. You will be contacted in advance to schedule a pick-up time. 


Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center NOW OPEN!

Channel your inner Olympian or splash and play with the family at Long Bridge Aquatic & Fitness Center! Long Bridge is now open with new hours.

 

Enjoy the indoor sprayground, lazy river and more in the family and leisure pool this weekend and on Tuesday (check out expanded hours below).

  • Saturday 1 p.m.- 4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday 1 p.m.- 4:30 p.m.
  • Monday Closed
  • Tuesday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The entire Center has new hours Sept. 7 to:

  • Mon.–Fri.: 5 a.m.–9 p.m.
  • Sat.: 6 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
  • Sun.: 8 a.m.–7:30 p.m.

Beginning Sept. 11 we will have 50M configuration ONLY on Saturdays starting at noon through Sundays at 11:30 a.m. The rest of the week will be 25 yards.

 

(Did You Know… Arlington was named the Fittest City in the USA. Join the Long Bridge Aquatic & Fitness Center and get access to all of our other Community Center Fitness Facilities across Arlington. But not vice versa.)

Upcoming Events

Sept. 4 & 5 – Discover amazing handmade art at the annual Arlington Labor Day Weekend Festival of the Arts this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. in Clarendon.

 

Sept. 10 – As if! Clueless will be screened Friday night at Virginia Highlands Park Field #3. Come any time after 6 p.m. to enjoy food from the Curbside Kitchen. The movie will begin after sundown. Pre-registration is required. 

 

Sept. 11 – Race for 9/11- related charities at the 20th Annual Arlington Police, Fire, Sheriff’s 9/11 Memorial 5K. Registration for the in-person race is sold out, but you can still register for the virtual race. 

 

Sept. 11 & 12  First Responders Cup Tournament (Fastpitch Softball) at Barcroft Park

Opening Ceremonies begin Sept. 11 at 7:30 am. Free. The Armed Services Color Guard, the 3rd Army Old Guard Ceremonial Fife and Drums Corps and Arlington County Fire Department will be on hand to welcome the teams onto the field of play. All net proceeds are donated to Pentagon Disaster Relief charities.
