After resolving equipment availability issues, a County contractor will resume work this weekend to repair the Wilson Boulevard bridge over Fort Myer Drive.
Crews are anticipated to resume work overnight beginning Sunday, Aug. 8, with night work hours being 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. This phase of nightwork is anticipated to be completed in two weeks, weather permitting.
The bridge is experiencing deterioration and concrete spalling, creating a safety issue for the underpass. This project will address the deteriorated concrete and perform repairs to reduce further deterioration.
What to expect during construction:
- There will be lane closures on Wilson Boulevard and Fort Myer Drive
- Portions of this work will require a complete closure of the Fort Myer Drive lanes beneath Wilson Boulevard, but the side lanes on Fort Myer Drive will remain open
- One bridge sidewalk will remain open at all times
- Work will be performed in accordance with the County Noise Ordinance
Starting on or around Wednesday, Aug. 11 Arlington County will install a pedestrian safety pilot project at Fort Myer Drive and Eastbound Langston Boulevard (former Lee Highway) intersection. The pilot project will reconfigure one of the southbound Fort Myer Drive left turn lanes in order to:
- Reduce vehicle turning conflicts with people walking or biking across the east leg of the intersection
- Increase visibility and awareness of people crossing Langston Blvd (formerly Lee Highway)
- Left turns will still be permitted from the far-left lane
