The County Board plans to legally rename US Route 29 as Langston Boulevard in July, but the functional operations (signage, addressing, etc.) of the roadway will be unchanged through the beginning of 2022. No action by residents or businesses is necessary at this time! 

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, 2021, is a national commemoration of African American emancipation. Originating in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865 when the Governor outlawed slavery, it has now spread across the nation as a celebration of African American heritage and culture. 

Consider celebrating at local events, including:

• The 2021 Juneteenth Peace Rally, hosted by ​the Arlington Black Employees Council on Thursday (June 17). The program includes powerful speaker and performers: Watch live on YouTube and Facebook.
• Ringing the bell in Constitution Garden Park in Bluemont
• Attending Sounds of Hope and Harmony ($) by the Coalition of African Americans in the Arts, and with ONE DC at the Black Workers and Wellness Center in Anacostia.
• Virginia is celebrating the holiday all month long with events, speaker series, tours, and virtual offerings across the commonwealth. 

This year, Juneteenth is a new official County holiday, meaning County Government offices and services will be operating on modified schedules on Friday, June 18.
