 Team DES:
As the County Manager stated in his Jan. 12 email, all employees will be included in Phase 1B of vaccination distribution. This is great news and a step we can all take to protect ourselves, each other, our loved ones, and our community.
As the County begins to offer the vaccine over the next several weeks, DES needs to begin planning to ensure that we reserve enough vaccine for our workforce.
Please take this short survey. Responses due by close of business, Friday, Jan. 22. Data received from this is solely for departmental planning purposes. Specific directions and registration for vaccination will follow and begin in a couple weeks.
Registration information will be made available to all employees regardless of survey response and must be completed to receive a vaccine through the County’s process.
How effective is the vaccine?
The vaccine is an important and effective step in ending this pandemic. It is the way to protect not only yourself, but those around you. In clinical trials, the currently authorized COVID-19 vaccines were shown to have high efficacy (>94%) in preventing symptomatic COVID-19 infection after two doses and showed that they could prevent severe disease.
The risks from COVID-19 illness are greater than the possible risks from receiving the vaccine. Similar to the flu shot, common side effects include pain or swelling in the arm where you got vaccinated, fever, headache, chills or tiredness. These side effects should resolve in a few days. For more information, visit the CDC website.
Is the vaccine mandatory for ACG employees?
No. Although not mandatory, the vaccination greatly reduces your chances of getting COVID-19 and is a critical step toward resuming more of the everyday activities we enjoyed before the pandemic. We encourage everyone to do their part to reduce the spread, and that includes getting vaccinated. We are in this together. For more on safety and efficacy of the vaccine, visit the VDH website.
You will receive an email notification in the coming weeks from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), indicating that the County has registered you in the Vaccine Administration Management System (VAMS) and that you are now eligible to make a vaccination appointment. You will also get a second email from Arlington to schedule an appointment in our system.
Note: Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, known as Washington's Birthday or Presidents Day, is not a County holiday. County staff received an additional floating holiday in FY21 in lieu of a scheduled County holiday on this date.
