Columbia Pike west end construction update

(For work between South Jefferson Street and the Four Mile Run bridge)

Installation of orange bollards

Flagging operations will slow traffic on Saturday, Feb. 1 between 7 am and 9:30 am for installation of orange bollards. This work was rescheduled from last Saturday due to rain.

One westbound lane and one eastbound lane will remain open during this operation. This will not be a noise generating activity.

Work at Frederick Street intersection starting next week

Next week the contractor will begin installation of the utility duct bank within the Columbia Pike and South Frederick Street intersection. This work is scheduled to start Friday, Feb. 7 and last up to two weeks, including weekends and weather permitting.

Plans originally called for weekend closures of the intersection to perform this work, but the new approach allows the intersection to remain open. Crews will excavate short segments of the duct bank trench while maintaining all vehicle movements currently permitted. This means the current one lane in each direction with a second eastbound lane during weekday morning rush hours will remain in effect.

Flaggers will be deployed at the intersection during this operation, and they will assist ART buses that need to turn left from Columbia Pike onto South Frederick Street (only buses are currently allowed to make this left turn).
