Bus lane and pedestrian improvements on Moore Street

Rendering of bus-only lane markings

Rendering of "bus only" lane markings on North Moore Street

This month the County will add new pavement markings and signage on North Moore Street between 19th Street North and Wilson Boulevard. The changes are designed to improve the street’s safety and operations.

The new markings are scheduled to be installed in the evening during the week of Sept. 9, weather permitting.

North Moore Street is one of Arlington’s key transit hubs. It has unique operational challenges due to a mix of vehicle and bus traffic. The street also has some of the highest numbers of pedestrians in Arlington. The improvements will help reduce bus delays by separating bus traffic and will make pedestrian crossing areas more distinct and visible.

What’s changing

  • Bus-only lane - The right curbside lane on Moore Street will be marked and signed as “BUS ONLY.” Only authorized transit vehicles will be permitted in this lane, and Arlington Police will be able to enforce this restriction through warnings and ticketing.
  • Pedestrian improvements - The crossing areas on Moore Street will be improved with striping and bollards.
