Arlington Public Schools (APS) starts a new year on Tuesday, Sept. 3, with more than 28,000 students set to walk through the doors of the top school district in Virginia. And in 2019, new is the operative word: new schools, new names and new buildings.


New & Improved Custis Trail

A new, wider section of the Custis Trail — part of the Lynn Street Esplanade and Custis Trail Improvements project — made its debut this week. The expanded section adds trail width and buffer space along westbound Lee Highway.


End of Summer Fun

The County’s spraygrounds close on Labor Day, marking the unofficial end of another summer in Arlington ... but it's not over yet!

#tbt: The Great Northern Virginia Elephant Hunt

"Barlow’s Elephants" — Annie, Jennie, Queenie, and Tommie — was an animal act featured at Luna Park, an amusement park that stretched along Four Mile Run on South Glebe Road (pictured above). The four elephants, part of a very popular traveling show, arrived at Luna Park on August 20, 1906.
