Improved section of Custis Trail opens Monday

Custis Trail construction in Rosslyn

Custis Trail under construction in Rosslyn

A new wider section of the Custis Trail will make its debut next week. The expanded trail section along westbound Lee Highway between North Lynn and North Oak Streets is expected to open by Monday afternoon, Aug. 26, weather permitting.

The improvements are part of the Lynn Street Esplanade and Custis Trail Improvements project, which transformed one lane of Lee Highway into additional trail width and buffer space.

While the new trail section is opening, work is still underway adjacent to the Custis Trail in Rosslyn. An orange safety fence will remain up between the trail and the travel lanes on Lee Highway to help protect trail users. Construction is also continuing on the portion of the Custis Trail from the northeast corner of Lynn Street and paralleling the ramp from I-66.

Crews will be installing permanent signs along the trail, but this work should have minimal impact on trail traffic.
