Columbia Pike Utility Undergrounding & Streetscape Improvements Update
Crews working near the Columbia Pike and South Dinwiddie Street intersection
County Line to Four Mile Run (aka west end)
Fort Myer’s crews continue with the installation of new sanitary sewer and storm sewer mains. This work is occurring in the middle of Columbia Pike, and there will be ongoing lane closures with traffic congestion expected. Be safe and watch out for construction workers and pedestrians within this area.
Bus stop relocation
Fort Myer has requested that the bus shelter on the southwest corner of Columbia Pike and South Columbus Street be relocated during installation of the storm sewer. This bus stop will likely be relocated east near the 7-Eleven. Notices will be installed at the shelter alerting bus riders of this temporary move.
Water service disruptions for new water main connections
All testing for the new water main and laterals is complete. Fort Myers’ contractor, Amerigal, anticipates connecting the remaining three laterals — for 55-Hundred, Wildwood and Wildwood Towers — within the next few weeks, weather permitting.
There will be water service disruptions as the remaining properties along this section of Columbia Pike are connected to the new water main. The water disruption at each affected property is expected to last 2 to 3 hours, but it could last longer if crews run into complications. The contractor will provide notice to affected properties 48 hours before the start of this work.

South Wakefield Street to South Oakland Street
Washington Gas continues moving forward with the relocation of their in-street gas main and is currently working near South Quincy Street. Washington Gas is required to relocate the gas main prior to the County beginning construction on the improvements project.
Anticipated night work
Gas main relocation work within the Columbia Pike and George Mason Drive intersection will occur during nighttime hours to minimize traffic disruption. Permits are being secured for this work, with exact dates and hours pending. There will be police presence to assist with traffic while this night work is taking place.
