Arlington’s 50th Annual MLK Tribute

Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy at Arlington’s 50th annual tribute event on Sun., Jan. 20, 5-6:30 p.m. in the Wakefield High School auditorium. Dr. King’s Dream: A Legacy Performed is hosted by Christian Keyes of BET’s In Contempt and The Family Business and CW’s Supernatural and includes music by soloists Jackie Pate and James Gibson, the Hoffman Boston All-Star Chorus and Arlington’s own Joy Gardner, spoken word from Outspoken Poetress Audrey Perkins, dance from Inspire Arts Collective LLC among others. Admission is free. Overflow seating available. Details.

Teen Summer Parks & Rec Internship - apply now!

Selected high school students ages 14-18 can participate in a three-week paid internship with the Arlington County Department of Parks and Recreation. Staff will provide hands-on opportunities for youth to work in Parks and Recreation units. Students are expected to work 60 hours; there are two sessions to choose from. Come Cook With Us at our New Year’s Families Unplugged program on Sat., Jan. 19, 10 a.m.-noon at Walter Reed Community Center! Our expert nutrition educators will guide you and your family through healthy, tasty and affordable recipes including Fruity Filled Wonton Cups, California or Avocado Rolls with Spicy Mayo Dipping Sauce and Rainbow Veggie Vermicelli and Soba Noodles. $8 per person for ages 5+. Family Skate Nights 

You and your family will enjoy a live DJ, moon bounces and fun on wheels at Skate Night. Café open for snacks; no outside food, drink or impromptu parties permitted. Saturday evenings through March 30 from 6:30-9 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson Community Center. Only $2 per person (cash only).
