This course brought to you free of charge by Arlington County Department of Human Services.
A young person you know could be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis.
You can help them.
Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to young people showing signs of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self help care. Anyone can take the 8-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid course, but it is ideally designed for adults who work with young people, ages 12-18 — teachers, coaches, leaders of faith communities, social workers, and other caring citizens.

You can help!
You can make the holiday season a little happier for some of Arlington’s most vulnerable residents by taking part in the Department of Human Services’ Secret Santa Program.
How it works
Donate gift cards from area stores – grocery stores, drug stores, clothing stores and Target all work great – and the Department of Human Services distributes them to more than 1,000 needy individuals in the community in the holiday season. You can also send a check made out to “Arlington County Treasurer – Secret Santa.”
Individuals, church groups, schools and neighborhoods have all taken part in the past. Making it a group effort is a great holiday project for kids, families, apartment buildings, sports teams and offices.
