SOS Suicide Prevent - Sept 27th 7:00pm

Join APS and be a part of the community's suicide prevention efforts. Together we will learn about the SOS Signs of Suicide program that will be implemented in our middle and high schools this year.

Participants will leanr about protective factors to keeps kids safe, and will have an opportunity to learn more about school, community and county resources.

Please join us for Arlington's Domestic Violence Awareness Month Kickoff event on Thursday, October 4th. Featuring community leaders and local activist Kate Ranta: Survivor Inspired Speak Up - SISU.

Kate Ranta is the mother of two boys, a marketing professional, and a survivor of domestic and gun violence. She and her father survived two bullets each when her ex-husband shot them. The couple's young son witnessed the shooting. Kate has been a gun control activist for nearly six years, has appeared in documentary films, in national media, and on expert panels. She leverages her story to raise awareness about violence against women and the deadly intersection between domestic and gun violence.

Want to improve children’s behavior and strengthen family bonds?

Strengthening Families Program at Carlin Springs ES - Free program for Arlington County 4th-5th graders and their families to work together over 7 weeks on communication skills and stress management. Parents gain techniques in effective discipline while students learn to resist peer pressure, understand consequences, and solve problems constructively. Weekly sessions are highly interactive and include role-playing, discussions, learning games, and family projects. 

Class for 4th-5th graders and their parents/caregivers is on Wednesday nights from Oct. 3 – Nov. 28 from 6:00-8:15 pm at Carlin Springs ES, 5995 5th Rd S.

  • Dinner and childcare are included.
  • Classes are in English and Spanish.
