Fort Myer Drive street improvements
County making short-term enhancements at 3 intersections
Improved lane markings at intersection of Lee Highway and Fort Myer Drive
This month the County will begin installing enhancements to three intersections along Fort Myer Drive. The changes, based on input from a community workshop in March, will serve as a test of how vehicles, buses, bikes and pedestrians can better share the street space.
The enhancements will include:
-
Intersection of Lee Highway and Fort Myer Drive – creating a larger pedestrian space at the crosswalk to shorten the distance for those crossing Fort Myer Drive, and better markings for the lanes to help drivers navigate through the intersection safely.
-
Intersection of North Nash Street and Fort Myer Drive – widening the crosswalk, and creating a larger pedestrian space at the crosswalk to shorten the distance for those crossing Fort Myer Drive.
-
Intersection of Fairfax Drive and Fort Myer Drive – bus stop improvements and creating a larger pedestrian space at the crosswalks to shorten the distance for those crossing Fort Myer Drive and Fairfax Drive.
As the enhancements are implemented, you can find photos of the changes on Flickr.
Once they are all in place, and people in the area have had a chance to experience the changes, we will be asking for input on how well the enhancements are working. Stay tuned for details on how to provide your feedback.
