Bon Air Park's Memorial Rose Garden
Celebrate National Rose Month at Bon Air Rose
Garden
As World War II was coming to a close, local community and business
leader Mrs. Nellie Broyhill sought to create a living tribute to Arlingtonians
who served in the war. The plan was to establish a rose garden on the
grounds of the upcoming Arlington Hospital. Each rose would honor a
specific individual and a special area would contain “gold star” roses for
those who lost their lives. In 1951, the rose garden was dedicated and less
than 15 years later, the Memorial Rose Garden was relocated to Bon Air Park where it's been since 1964. A
community gathering place and favorite spot for photography for decades, the garden
currently has over 2600 rose bushes and approximately 150 varieties. Come celebrate the one and only rose and
share the beauty of Bon Air Park's Memorial Rose Garden!

Pollinator Patch Coming to
Bluemont Park
Thanks to a partnership with Arlington County, Dominion Energy, NOVA Parks and community volunteers, nearly 500 native plants will be planted along
the Washington & Old Dominion Trail (by the Bluemont Park parking lot) on Tues., June 20 at 10 a.m. The space is currently turf
grass and weeds, but in honor of National Pollinator Week (June 19- 25)
the space will be transformed into a native meadow for Arlington’s pollinators and
passersby to enjoy. Birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles, and other small mammals that pollinate plants are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food. Thanks to our partners and volunteers for their efforts in enhancing the natural areas of Arlington.
Skateboarders -- pack your board, helmet and pads and head to Powhatan Springs Skatepark for
