Old Dominion Phase 2 Improvements Update
Arlington County is adding sidewalks on both sides of Old
Dominion Drive (Route 309), making the road more pedestrian and cyclist friendly.
Other project features include new curbs and gutters, installation of a
stormwater system, upgrades to transit stops and new traffic signals,
street lights and street trees.
Construction work hours within the roadway are 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Please note - Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, no work will take place on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25.
New Project Updates
- All street paving within the project area
has been completed with the exception of the Old Dominion Drive service road
between Rock Spring Road and 30th Street N. An additional storm sewer structure
will be installed along this block prior to the start of paving.
- Pavement marking installation will begin this week.
- The remaining sidewalks and ADA curb ramps were
completed in the northwest and northeast corners of the Old Dominion
Drive and Williamsburg Boulevard intersection.
- The pedestrian signal heads and push buttons have been installed at the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and Rock Spring Road.
- Galvanized steel handrails have been mounted above
the stone retaining walls.
- Sodding continues. We will wait until spring to replace sod in some areas, as we anticipate some of it will grow back.
-
Due to this year’s unusually dry summer and fall seasons, fall planting/plant procurement and landscaping will take place in spring 2017.
