Background:
On July 16, 2016 the County Board approved an award of
contract to renovate an athletic field at Bluemont Park and build a trail
connection to Ashlawn Elementary School. After the award of contract,
several individuals and the leadership of the Bluemont and Boulevard Manor
Civic Associations and Parks and Recreation Commission expressed concerns about
fencing the diamond field and there was concern that a thorough public process
had not taken place.
This community discussion will be taking place while the
overall project proceeds forward as the preliminary work does not affect the
fence. Construction on the project began on Monday September 26, 2016.
Initial stages of construction will include installation of erosion and
sediment controls and tree protection measures and do not prevent subsequent
consideration regarding potential modifications to the diamond field
fence.
Please share this update with anyone interested in the
project.
