22202 Transportation and Planning Data Released

Map of 22202 zip code

In September 2015, the County Board asked for a report on past, present and projected vehicle traffic and transit ridership for the Crystal City/Pentagon City/Aurora Highlands/Arlington Ridge areas (aka the 22202 zip code).

Staff from multiple County departments have been working to compile planning and transportation data related to the 22202 zip code, and that data is now available online.

In early fall, it's anticipated that the County will embark on a community conversation about what this data tells us – stay tuned for more details. In the meantime, County staff will be presenting a briefing on the 22202 data at the July Planning Commission and Transportation Commission meetings, which can be viewed live online.

Construction Updates

ART Bus Facility

The contractor continues to work on the building exterior (block, brick and steel). This week they assembled the fuel island canopy, which is a major element of the construction project. View project page and construction photos.

New sidewalk and roadway features continue to be prepped on South Eads Street – be aware of minor delays in this area during daily commutes. On South Eads from 31st Street to Glebe Road, the sidewalk along the east side is temporarily closed, but the bike lane remains open.

Crystal City Multimodal Center

This week the contractor reopened the northeast side of the South Bell Street and 18th Street intersection to bus traffic and continued to reset pavers in the same section. Crews closed the northwest side, closest to the Metro station escalator, to continue the realignment of the intersection.

In approximately two weeks the contractor plans to reopen the northwest side of the South Bell and 18th Street intersection and move to the next phase, which is the southwest section.

Only buses are allowed to enter South Bell Street between 15th and 18th Streets during this phase of construction. Pedestrians are urged to follow detour signs through these areas and watch for buses when crossing Bell Street. View project page
