Assistant Habitat Program Manager

Do you have an understanding of wildlife ecology and the habitat requirements of game and nongame wildlife species? If so, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is looking for an assistant habitat program manager. The person selected for this role would oversee wildlife management areas in northeastern Utah and collaborate with local, federal, state and private partners to conduct habitat-restoration projects on public lands for the benefit of regional wildlife. Additional responsibilities include water development, fire rehabilitation, habitat restoration and development, weed spraying, and supervising a two-person maintenance crew and up to four seasonal employees. Note: Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree in a natural resources field. Additional preference will be given to candidates with a master's degree in a wildlife-related natural resources field or other applicable fields that benefit the position. Preference for years of demonstrated successful full-time work experience will vary based on the specific position.
Principal duties
As the assistant habitat program manager, you will:
- Build and strengthen partnerships with stakeholders in the region.
- Develop and implement habitat-restoration projects that target priority areas of the region.
- Oversee the maintenance crew and seasonal employees.
- Assist with the revision of habitat management plans for wildlife management areas in the region.
- Effectively communicate and work with wildlife, aquatics, law enforcement, outreach and administrative staff in the region.
- Adhere to DWR and department policies for any on-the-job activities.
The ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
- A bachelor's degree in a natural resources related field or directly related work experience equivalent.
- Experience supervising employees.
- Experience working independently in a variety of outdoor conditions.
- Experience working with stakeholders/partners as a regular part of the job.
