Dear wildlife enthusiast,
Though sleigh rides will not be offered at Hardware Ranch this winter, you will still have a chance to see hundreds of wild elk!
Starting Dec. 4, the visitor center will follow COVID-19 safety protocols and will be open Friday-Sunday until Feb. 14. We will set up two viewing areas outside the center that will provide great views of the elk every day of the week.
We will also provide a one-page map and activity guide at our visitor’s center. The map will show you where you can see elk and the activity will be something you can do outside the visitor center with your kids.

To make sure you have a great experience and to help keep people safe, please consider the following:
- To enter the visitor’s center, you will need to wear a mask. We also suggest wearing a mask if you’re within six feet of other visitors who are not members of your household.
- To keep the crowds small, we'll limit the number of people who can be in the visitor center at any given time. After signing in, you can move into the indoor observation area. This area provides a great view of the meadow in which the elk are feeding. You can stay inside the visitor center for up to 15 minutes.
- We are setting up two viewing stations, with informative signs about the elk, near the visitor center. You’ll need to bring your own binoculars or a spotting scope, but you'll have a great view of hundreds of elk.
- We are setting aside the hours between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. for visitors who are in the COVID-19 high-risk category. We ask visitors who are not in a high-risk group to wait until noon to enter the visitor center.
Thank you for your cooperation. You can find out more about this winter season at Hardware Ranch on our website.
Sincerely, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources
