Greetings Dedicated Hunter,
We know you’re eager to get started on service projects for the 2020 season. Although the COVID-19 situation has made it a bit more challenging to offer service opportunities, we are adding new projects every week. We are also working on new and creative solutions to address project needs.
Completing your service hours
The service requirement hasn’t changed. You should continue to plan and complete the service hours necessary to obtain your permit this year. Please visit the Dedicated Hunter website often to find and sign up for approved projects.
Important: We encourage you to take advantage of service opportunities as they become available. Don’t wait for something more convenient or closer to home. There will be fewer project options this year, and they may require you to travel. Projects are being developed according to current social distancing guidelines and public health orders, which means that projects you’ve done in the past might not be offered this year. If you see a project that’s a reasonable fit, sign up for it!
Sharing your project ideas
Also, as we continue to offer additional projects, we want to hear from you. Send us your project ideas and suggestions. Your project proposals should have a specific wildlife or habitat aspect, or they should fill a need within the DWR.
Project proposals must be for future work — not activities that are underway or that have already been completed. A DWR volunteer coordinator will evaluate the proposals and determine whether or not they can qualify for service credit.
Working together, making a difference
In the Dedicated Hunter Program, we work together to help wildlife, restore habitat and improve hunting in Utah. Please be patient with project leaders and with each other in the coming months. Together, we will accomplish great things. We look forward to partnering with you on projects and are excited to hear about your hunts this fall!
Wishing you all the best, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources
P.S. Make sure to check with each county for directives or restrictions specific to the area before you plan a trip there. You can find answers to common questions about fishing and hunting in Utah during COVID-19 on the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources website. And don't forget to practice social distancing and responsible recreation during any outdoor adventures!
