Northern Arizona VA receives top marks in 2026 CMS report

For the fourth year in a row, Northern Arizona VA Health Care System has received a 5-star Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). 

“This rating underscores our commitment to delivering safe, timely and high-quality care, and we are proud to contribute to VA’s continued nationwide excellence,” said Steven Sample, Executive Director of Northern Arizona VA Health Care System. 

"Park a Prescription" Option Now Available

You Decide When VA Meds Are Filled

When you and your VA provider decide you have extra medication or do not need a refill right away, your VA prescription can be set to “Active: Parked.” This keeps the prescription active, but the pharmacy will only fill it when you request it.

Parking a prescription can help you:

• Reduce extra medication at home.

• Avoid unnecessary copays by filling only when you are ready.

• Maintain control over the timing of your refills.

You can view and request your Parked prescriptions the same way you manage other VA medications:

• My HealtheVet – Sign in and request refills online.

• VA.gov – Manage your prescriptions through your VA account.

• VA Health and Benefits mobile app – View and manage prescriptions on the go.

• Your local VA Pharmacy – our team can help you check the status of and park or unpark your prescriptions.

My HealtheVet tip: Prescriptions that are “Active: Parked” will show in the Refill Status column. You can request a Parked prescription with 0 refills to be unparked (filled) as long as the status is “Not Filled Yet.” Controlled substances cannot be parked.

Quality sleep boosts mood, concentration, energy, and overall well‑being—making it easier to manage day‑to‑day life and chronic health conditions. If insomnia, nightmares, or symptoms of sleep apnea are getting in the way, talk with your PACT team about options that fit your goals and lifestyle. Simple Sleep Tips

• Keep a consistent sleep schedule, go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.
• Create a calming bedtime routine (reading, meditation, gentle stretching).
• Limit caffeine, nicotine, and large meals close to bedtime.
• Make your bedroom quiet, dark, and cool.
• Reduce screen use at least one hour before bed.
• Avoid long daytime naps that can disrupt nighttime sleep.

PTSD Awareness Walk & BBQ - June 7

Outreach - Food - Giveaways

What: Free community walk and BBQ. The first 100 Veterans will receive a free T-shirt, swag bag and raffle ticket! Veteran resources will also be available. 

Where: Watson Lake Park Upper Ramada, 3101 Watson Lake Road, Prescott, AZ

When: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2026

Why: To raise awareness and support for individuals who experience symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress

Parking: Free for all participating Veterans. All other attendees arriving in their own vehicles will be asked to pay Watson Lake Park's $5 parking fee.

Adaptive Sports Expo - June 11

What: Veterans, their families and caregivers - Come enjoy beautiful Prescott Valley as we bring adaptive sports to the High Country. The event will feature VA resources, VR demos, spots demos, adaptive equipment, vendors, food and fun!

Why: To showcase adaptive sports opportunities and connect Veterans with resources, demonstrations, equipment, vendors, food and fun in a supportive community environment.

Page VA Clinic Expansion of Services Celebration - June 17

Veterans, their families, and caregivers are invited to celebrate an exciting expansion of services at the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System’s Page VA Clinic.

Beginning June 1, the clinic will offer in-person primary care services Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—a significant step forward in expanding access to care for rural communities across Northern Arizona.

Join us on June 17 for a special celebration featuring:

• Open house at 10:00 a.m.
• Remarks from VA and local leaders at 11:00 a.m.
• Ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:45 a.m.
• Complimentary lunch at 12:00 p.m., provided by Northern Arizona VA

Freedom 250 Celebration - June 26

Join us as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and honor the Veterans who made it possible!

This free, family-friendly event will feature Veteran resources, complimentary food, fun activities, a ceremonial flag raising, and special guest speakers.

Veterans, their families, and caregivers can also receive one-on-one assistance with a variety of services, including:

Starting Tuesday, June 9, our Mental Health department is offering a 12-week workshop focused on whole health.
