Whether you have arthritis in your joints, an aching back, shoulders, feet, or a combat-related injury, more than half of all Veterans are dealing with chronic pain of one type or another.
Trying to live your life by just dealing with chronic pain rather than taking action to manage it can steal the joy from your life and can cause further harm to your physical and mental health.
Lasting or chronic pain Should the pain keep returning or never really go away, you can find effective treatment options by speaking to your provider about how you can reduce your chronic pain. If you are also having trouble sleeping, feeling irritable, stressed, or feel your situation is hopeless, your provider can connect you to all the appropriate resources available here at Coatesville VA.
Available Treatment options Physical therapy - is commonly used to help reduce pain, but a lesser known subset of physical therapy is manual therapy. Manual therapy can be provided by osteopathic physicians, chiropractors, and physical therapists. The most common application of manual therapy techniques is to improve pain and function and includes high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thrusts, soft tissue mobilization, muscle energy, strain-counter strain, myofascial release, and craniosacral therapy.
Complementary approaches to managing pain - Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) services are part of our Whole Health program and can be effective in reducing chronic pain. Complementary services can contribute to improving pain symptoms through your diet, dietary supplements, sleep habits, mind-body interventions, and exercise. You can access CIH services through a referral from your provider
