Dear Veterans, Community Partners, and Supporters,
The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System remains focused on ensuring every Veteran has access to safe housing, quality health care, and the support needed to move forward. Next week, CAVHCS is taking part in coordinated outreach efforts to support Veterans experiencing homelessness across Central Alabama, the Wiregrass region, and surrounding communities.
On Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. EST, CAVHCS will conduct an Outreach Surge Event for Unsheltered Veterans in Columbus, GA. This effort brings VA staff and community partners together to meet Veterans where they are and connect them with immediate resources, housing pathways, and essential services.
During the outreach surge, Veterans will have access to:
- HUD-VASH
- Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)
- Veterans Justice Outreach
- Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV)
- Employment and community support resources
- Suicide prevention and crisis support
- Additional VA and community-based services
In addition to the outreach surge, CAVHCS staff from Homeless Programs and Social Work Service will partner with community organizations to support the annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Count. This nationwide effort plays a critical role in identifying Veterans experiencing homelessness, understanding their needs, and connecting them to housing, health care, and supportive services.
By working side by side with community partners and engaging directly with Veterans, these efforts help ensure no Veteran is overlooked. The information gathered through the PIT Count helps inform local and national strategies to strengthen housing stability and long-term support.
If you know a Veteran who may benefit from these outreach efforts, please share this information or encourage them to connect with VA services. Community partners are encouraged to help spread awareness and support Veterans in accessing care.
For questions or additional information, please contact your local VA Homeless Program representative.
Thank you for standing with Veterans and supporting efforts to end Veteran homelessness.
Respectfully,
Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System
