In September Minnesota Military Radio was all about Suicide Prevention. Eric Wittenberg, Minneapolis VA Suicide Prevention Coordinator started the program which also featured subject matter experts from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, Minnesota National Guard, and Suicide Awareness Voices of Education. Everybody has their own Ramadi

Dan Hanson is a Marine. He followed in his older brother’s footsteps when he enlisted.  Hanson, a social worker with the Minneapolis VA’s Suicide Prevention Team, shared his story with a small collection of Veterans gathered for this month’s Café. Hanson’s first deployment began with a suicide of a unit member before they ever stepped foot in Ramadi, a foreshadowing of what would come. ...read more

 


Veteran Resource Fair and Claims Clinic

The VA hosted a Veterans Resource Fair and Claims Clinic in Minneapolis this month. Local Veterans had an opportunity to learn about VA benefits, burials and health care. Outreach team members from all areas of our Medical Center and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics were there to answer questions. ...read more

Maggie never fails to light up a room

“It all started with art”, says our Volunteer of the Month, Maggie DeRee. That’s how she started what is now a 25-year relationship with our VA, clocking in nearly 28,000 volunteer hours.     

DeRee is also a Veteran. She went to Basic Training at a time when women were still referred to as "WACs,” the Women’s Army Corps. ...read more

The Minneapolis VA was proud to host the Naval Aviation Alumni choir this month. Performances like this bring smiles to our inpatient Veterans and really make the medical center a joyous place.
