“I got involved in a slope adaptive study,” said Dave Taylor, who was able to take a new prosthetic foot home as part of a research study funded by the Department of Defense. “I put that thing on, and it changed my life. I could put on a dress shoe and was able to dance with my wife and feel good in my body one more time,” said Taylor. Since that study, Taylor felt compelled to give back to the Minneapolis VA, and became involved in many different research studies. Expanding care for active-duty service members

We are in the process of expanding the impact of the Minneapolis VA, one of five regional polytrauma centers of excellence in the United States, to provide even more specialized care. Renovations are underway across a combined unit that will serve our acute rehab programming, our transitional brain injury program and our new high-level intensive evaluation and treatment program - that focuses on active-duty service members with an emphasis on special forces. ...read more


Veterans prepare for National Wheelchair Games

Athletes prepare for return of National Veterans Wheelchair Games to Minnesota. For the first time in 20 years, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games are heading to Minneapolis. From July 17-22, athletes from around the country will head to the Land of 10,000 Lakes to compete in a slew of sports. ...see the story at Kare 11


Spinal cord injury Veteran walks out!

The Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder Center celebrates with one Veteran as he completed his acute rehabilitation, post spinal cord injury, and WALKED OUT of the VA Medical Center! After months of determination and grit, overcoming all obstacles this Veteran is on his way home. Shoutout to the Minneapolis VA Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder Acute Rehabilitation Team for their dedication to helping Veterans achieve their goals! See video here


All in the family

Courtney Mulhern, a HUD-VASH social worker with the Minneapolis VA, served one weekend a month and a few weeks a year as a civil affairs non-commissioned officer in the Army Reserves. That was until this month, when she was promoted from staff sergeant to first lieutenant, accepting a direct commission into the Army Medical Department.   

Mulhern asked her grandfather, who once went by Staff Sgt. Loren Mollet, to be her first salute. The first salute is a military tradition to honor the enlisted service member who has had the most impact on you. ...read more
