In 2019, he transferred his care to the Minneapolis VA Medical Center and began to work with the Amputation Clinic and a prosthetist for his amputation care. Fedor said that receiving his care at the VA has significantly benefitted his recovery. “This team truly cares, and they are readily available to provide assistance, guidance and support whenever I need it,” he said when talking about the genuine concern he feels from his Amputation Care team. ...read more.

Over the past five years, we have expanded care for Veterans with Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders with the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Program, and the implementation of a successful Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) program. The Minneapolis VA performed its first DBS surgery in November 2021. Since this initial case, 52 new deep brain stimulators have been surgically implanted in Veterans with Parkinson’s Disease, essential tremor and dystonia. ...read more

“I rarely use the word hate, but I hate cancer war metaphors. Fighting cancer. A long battle with cancer,” reads Tony Tovsen from notes he has taken on a phone. Capturing thoughts about his cancer journey is something he calls ‘clearing the junk out of his head.’ At age 57, 16 years ago, he was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer with heavy metastasis to the liver.
