Protecting the Veteran Community from Fraud
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)'s National Center for PTSD (NCPTSD) is dedicated to serving the Veteran community. We want to raise awareness of potential fraud and provide resources to protect yourself from these schemes.
The VA will never contact you or your family to request money or personal information. Scammers may ask you for money through wire transfers, gift cards, or other methods.
These scammers may impersonate members of the VA and fake affiliation with other organizations. They may also:
- Ask for personal information
- Use an urgent and aggressive tone
- Send you suspicious links and claim they are for VA websites
- Federal government websites often end in .gov or .mil
-
https:// ensures that you're connecting to an official website
Please report any suspicious incidents to your local authorities. Visit https://vsafe.gov/VSAFE for more information on fraud prevention. You can also refer to this VA Fraud Prevention Kit.
