CBOCs new services save lives

The Minneapolis VA Health Care System has 13 Community Based Outpatient Clinics in eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. In 2023, these clinics added more services so Veterans can get specialized care right at their local VA. One of these new services is cardiology. Having the cardiology team in our clinic makes them a valuable resource for doctors, staff, and caregivers. ...read more.

Up until very recently, Cris Kriesel was only able to kiss her husband by bending down to his chair level. Her husband, Navy Veteran Charles ‘Charlie’ Kriesel, has spent the last eight years sitting in a wheelchair due to a spinal cord injury. Kriesel has not been able to stand side-by-side with his kids nor his wife.   

On Jan. 30, Minneapolis VA Physical Therapist Amber Wacek and Study Coordinator Alexandria Richardson, delivered the mobile manual standing wheelchair to Kriesel as part of his participation in an ongoing study on the utility of a standing manual wheelchair for Veterans with spinal cord injury and disorders. ...read more


Salute to Veterans

Since 1978, through the National Salute to Veteran Patients Week, we have been showing our Veteran patients just how much we love them. Our annual program was kicked of by Director Pat Kelly, followed by nearly 100 volunteers and staff distributing Valentine’s Day cards and candy to Veteran inpatients throughout the hospital. This year we received over 4,000 Valentines for our Veterans. ...read more

DAV Van

Richard Olson was named the 2024 Disabled American Veterans (DAV) of Minnesota Volunteer Driver of the Year. The DAV of Minnesota Transportation Program provides free transportation to Veterans so they can attend their medical appointments at the four regional VA medical centers. ...read more
