CSI:OPIOIDs (Clinical Context of Suicide Following Opioid Transitions)
This VA-funded research study seeks to interview people who have lost a friend or family member to suicide after a taper or stoppage of opioid pain medication. If you are aware of such a person, consider if you wish to let them know about the study. The person who died by suicide may be a Veteran or non-Veteran. There is no similar study seeking to carry out such interviews, which are sometimes called "psychological autopsies".
People who wish to be considered for study inclusion can enter the IRB-approved online screening survey at https://go.uab.edu/csiopioids or they can call 1-866-283-7223.
The study team is led by Dr. Stefan Kertesz at Birmingham VA Medical Center. People who qualify will be asked to consider if they would like to do a full interview. All information is kept confidential. General information about the study team is at www.csiopioids.org.
This study is approved by the Institutional Review Boards at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
