VA Police Officers received national honor

Four Minneapolis VA Police Officers received national honors this month at the medical center. The National VA Police Awards recognize the dedication and exceptional service of VA police officers. These prestigious awards honor those who demonstrate outstanding commitment to their duties, foster a culture of excellence and accountability, and highlight the recipients’ contributions to safeguarding the well-being of Veterans and ensuring a secure environment within VA facilities. ...read more


Providing healthcare to homeless Veterans

One year ago, the Community Resource and Referral Center started outreach thanks to a brand new Mobile Medical Unit (MMU). The MMU is a medically equipped van that provides on the spot clinical services for Veterans experiencing homelessness. 

“MMUs provide a one-stop shop for wrap-around services that are integrated and coordinated. The vehicle allows VA staff to expand outreach to homeless Veterans at highest risk and vulnerability allowing for better health outcomes for Veterans that would otherwise not access care” said Jodi Paulsen, MMU Outreach Supervisor. ..read more


10 years on the road and still rolling

The Minneapolis VA Veterans Transportation Service (VTS) office celebrated their 10th Anniversary in September. Minneapolis VA VTS began with just two drivers and two busses. Over the years this program has grown and is currently staffed by nine Motor Vehicles Operators and has 11 vehicles. 

“It's been a pleasure to watch VTS develop and grow into what it is today and I love the dedication that our drivers and scheduler have put into serving our nations hero's,” said Mobility Manager Jacob Chudzik.” ...read more


From POW to prized patient

During a decoy run on Feb. 22, 1944, his B-17 Bomber called Pot O' Gold was shot down. He and his crew bailed out.

He started going to the VA for care immediately after his service in WWII. “At that time the VA was absolutely horrible,” said Les. They initially denied him care for stomach pain, finally granting him surgery after his persistence.
“Hubert Humphrey is the one that got everything turned around,” said Les about the improvements at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. “I didn’t even like Hubert Humphrey, but I have to give him credit, he did wonders.” He says he’s gotten all of his care at the VA ever since. ...read more


Lida Rogers, volunteer of the month

As a volunteer barber in the Community Living Center, Lida's remarkable journey has touched the lives of countless Veterans, helping them look and feel their best. This extraordinary unwavering commitment is an inspiration. 

Lida had a 25-year career working with homeless area shelters in the Twin Cities. A good friend of hers was an Air Force Veteran who was diagnosed with cancer and was cared for at the Minneapolis VA. This experience, and time spent at the VA watching the exemplary care her friend received, especially by the nurses, was the reason Lida decided to volunteer. ...read more
