"Staffing agencies help veterans in need of immediate work find jobs fast, offering flexible work while they continue to seek that ideal employment opportunity"
Finding a job as a veteran can be challenging, especially if you’re transitioning from military service, have Justice Involvement challenges or dealing with employment gaps. Fortunately, staffing agencies can be a powerful resource, helping you secure immediate or flexible work opportunities that align with your skills. With an increasing demand for veterans in the Greater St. Louis area, especially in industries like manufacturing, healthcare, technology, and logistics, utilizing staffing agencies can be an effective way to jumpstart your employment journey.
What Are Staffing Agencies?
Staffing agencies, also called temp agencies, work with companies looking to fill short-term, part-time, or temp-to-hire positions. These agencies have a network of employers who need workers immediately, making them ideal for veterans seeking quick employment or those looking to gain experience in a new industry. They handle the recruitment process, including interviews, background checks, and sometimes even training, making it easier for you to find a job without navigating the job search alone.
Staffing Agencies vs. Employment Agencies: What’s the Difference?
Understanding the difference between staffing and employment agencies is essential for veterans considering their job search options:
-
Staffing Agencies primarily focus on filling temporary or contract positions. You might be hired for a specific project, seasonal work, or a role that could turn into a permanent job if both you and the employer feel it's a good fit. These agencies often handle your payroll and benefits while you’re working, providing a seamless employment experience.
-
Employment Agencies, on the other hand, focus on helping job seekers find permanent employment. They match candidates with employers seeking long-term hires. Once you’re placed in a job through an employment agency, you become an employee of the hiring company, which handles your payroll, benefits, and career growth.

NPower - St. Louis Community Help Desk
In celebration of Digital Inclusion Week (October 7-11, 2024) we are proud to highlight NPower St. Louis as our Community Resource of the Month. Under the leadership of Beverly George, CHD Manger, NPower has played a key role in supporting the Homeless Veterans Community Employment Services at HOPE Recover Center by addressing the digital devise issues among our veteran population.
NPower’s participation in our Resource Fair this past June demonstrated their dedication to helping individuals gain the digital skills necessary for personal and professional growth. Their efforts align with our shared goal of ensuring that underserved communities have access to the tools and support they need to thrive in the digital age.
One of the greatest benefits of our partnership with NPower has been their ability to meet the unique needs of many of our older veterans. As technology continues to evolve, older veterans often struggle with the upkeep and effective use of their digital devices. Many have access to technology, but navigating updates, troubleshooting, and maximizing device functionality can be overwhelming. The NPower Community Help Desk steps in to provide crucial, personalized support that makes a real difference in their ability to stay connected and use their devices to the fullest.
In further support of our veterans, NPower has committed to being on-site at our facility on the last Friday of each month from 1300-1500 hours. During this time, veterans can receive direct, hands-on assistance with their digital devices. Additionally, for those who need help outside of these times, NPower’s doors are always open at their Kingshighway location in the Urban League’s building, where veterans can visit for ongoing support.
We encourage our veterans to take full advantage of this wonderful resource! Whether you need help navigating your device, resolving technical issues, or simply want to improve your digital skills, the NPower team is here to support you every step of the way.
By bridging the digital divide, NPower St. Louis is empowering individuals to connect, learn, and build a foundation for long-term success. As we celebrate Digital Divide Week, we recognize and appreciate their vital contributions to our community.

Reginald "Reggie" B. has achieved remarkable progress in both his personal and professional life. In April 2024, with the support of a Vocational Specialist at the St. Louis VA, he was hired as a shipping supervisor at Millport Sigma. There, he quickly rose through the ranks, managing logistics and honing his leadership skills. Always seeking growth, Reggie also took on a management role at QuikTrip, where he was promoted to relief manager due to his strong work ethic and initiative.
Understanding the importance of long-term goals, Reggie pursued further education in Computer Science with a focus on cybersecurity at Washington University. Balancing a demanding job and rigorous studies, Reggie made the strategic decision to focus on his education and role at QuikTrip, resigning from Millport Sigma. He is now making full use of his VA benefits, nearing a year of recovery, and remains an active participant in the recovery community.
Reggie’s story is a testament to resilience, the power of community support, and the life-changing impact of VA healthcare. His dedication to self-improvement and perseverance through challenges serves as an inspiration to many.
Interested in employment assistance? If you are a Veteran at risk for or experiencing homelessness contact Gregory Stanton, CEC above. If you are veteran who does not meet that criteria and eligible for healthcare via VA STL ask your Primary Care Physician to issue a consult to Vocational Services.
HERE IS WHERE YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Each year, VA Homeless Programs spanning the country collaborate closely with their local communities to disseminate the Project CHALENG (Community Homeless Assessment, Local Education, and Networking Groups) survey exclusively to our esteemed veteran audience. This survey serves as a unifying platform, bringing together service providers dedicated to aiding the homeless, impassioned advocates, and engaged citizens who share a common objective: addressing the ever-evolving requirements of our fellow Veterans grappling with homelessness.
We kindly request a few moments of your time to contribute your invaluable insights to our annual CHALENG survey. Your participation holds the power to drive enhancements in the services we offer to Veterans within our community. Over time, data gleaned from the CHALENG initiative has played an instrumental role in guiding the VA's creation of novel services tailored to Veterans' distinct needs. Noteworthy examples include the inception of the Homeless Veteran Dental Program, the expansion of the Department of Housing and Urban Development-VA Supportive Housing program the pioneering Veterans Justice Outreach programs, and the far-reaching Supportive Services for Veteran Families program.
It's worth highlighting that the data generated through CHALENG finds utility beyond the VA, as community organizations leverage it in grant applications. These grants, drawing from a spectrum of resources including VA, government, and foundation funds, are instrumental in combatting local challenges faced by homeless Veterans or those teetering on the brink of homelessness.
For a comprehensive understanding of the survey's objectives and impacts, please peruse the detailed insights available at Project CHALENG - VA Homeless Programs.
With profound gratitude for your enduring dedication to our nation
The 2023 VA CHALENG Survey is open and we need our VETERAN’S input. Please take a few minutes to complete, the survey can be found here:

Are you a Veteran Who is Homeless or At Risk for Homeless?
Local area Veterans who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness are strongly encouraged to contact the HOPE Recovery Center at (314) 652-4100 ext. 55405 for assistance. If Veterans do not have access to a phone or the internet, then visit their closest VA medical center without calling in advance. VA also urges Veterans who are not homeless or at risk of homelessness to contact their VA medical center before visiting for any reason. These steps are necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
