Overcoming the impacts of MS through the Wheelchair Games
Rob York of Woodbury, is one of nearly 20 Veterans from the Minneapolis VA Health Care System who competed in the 43rd National Veterans Wheelchair Games in New Orleans.

This award is given to only two businesses this year, from hundreds of nominations received by Minnesota ESGR, that have demonstrated the greatest level of support to Guard and Reserve employees through their leadership and practices, including adopting personnel policies that make it easier for employees to participate in the National Guard and Reserves. The Pro Patria Award, which was presented during Military Appreciation Day at the Minnesota State Fair, is the highest level award an ESGR State Committee may present to an employer. ...read more

Marian's connection to healthcare runs deep, her father was a small-town general practitioner and she would accompany him on his hospital rounds. This experience led Marian to a nursing career. Her connection to the military community developed because her husband served in the Army and received oncology care here at the Minneapolis VA. Marian decided to volunteer because of the kindness and care she received from the oncology employees during her husband's treatments. ...read more

Leaders at the Minneapolis VA Community Resource and Referral Center (CRRC) have observed notable improvements in team dynamics and Veteran care after participating in the High Reliability Leadership Academy (HRLA).
HRLA is a five-day leadership academy focused on equipping leaders with the skills to cultivate stronger teams while focusing on continuous process improvement which directly ties into the VA’s health care priority of becoming a High Reliability Organization (HRO). Grand Rapids resident and Minnesota Army National Guard Veteran Sandi Braunstein is competing with 18 fellow Veterans from the Minneapolis VA during the 43rd National Veterans Wheelchair Games. Sandi joined the Minnesota Army National Guard after High School graduation from Morris Area High School. Just months into her initial training, she was injured in two accidents back-to-back which led to seven surgeries over ten years and resulted in a left leg amputation in 2019. ...read more
