The early forecast for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season suggests it will be an extremely active season – 23 storms, 11 of which will become hurricanes and five of which will reach Category 3 status or stronger. What we don’t know is where or when a storm may impact our area.
We’ re not strangers to the effects of tropical storms and hurricanes in VISN 8. Over the past 7 years, Hurricanes Irma, Maria, Fiona, Michael, Ian, Idalia, and many more tropical systems have wreaked havoc on local communities with far reaching impacts.
We have designated the month of May 2024 as VISN 8 Hurricane Preparedness Month. I encourage you visit the VISN 8 preparedness website for information about actions you can take today and when a storm threatens your community.
The adage “the calm before the storm” has never been truer – now is the time to prepare – your workplace, your family, your home!
