Do you have a Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC), issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs, which is about to expire? Identification cards issued in 2014 are expiring in 2024.
Currently, any Veteran who requests a renewal VHIC within 1 year of the printed expiration date will be issued a new VHIC with an expiration date 10 years from the date of renewal. This change took effect Dec. 15, 2023.
Every Veteran requesting a new VHIC will be required to undergo proofing, and a current photo is required. Veterans may apply for a new VHIC either through self service or in person at their nearest VA facility.
For more information on how to obtain a VHIC, please call 573-686-4151, extension 52177 or follow the link below.

Ending homelessness among Veterans is a top priority at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the agency continually works alongside community partners to provide critically-needed shelter and services for those affected.
As part of that mission, staff from the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, in coordination with local partners and the Missouri Balance of State Continuum of Care, recently took part in the annual, nationwide Point-in-Time Count.
“The Point-in-Time count basically is a literal count of all people who experience homelessness in the community on a single night,” explained Jennifer Lay, homeless program supervisor at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center. “This count is conducted in every community nationwide in January.”
