Dear Veteran,

Please consider receiving a COVID vaccination this year. Getting your COVID vaccination can help protect the people you live with or take care of.

You can get your COVID vaccination at our Wilmington VA Medical Center walk-in clinic Monday Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. starting Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in the 1st floor Primary Care Team lobby area.

For patients that use one of our five CBOC's please call your Primary Care Team to schedule your COVID vaccination. CBOC's are scheduling COVID vaccinations the 3rd Friday of each month.

Please call 1-800-461-8262, Option 2 to schedule.

If available, please bring a copy of your COVID vaccination card to the walk-in clinic or your appointment.

Flu shots are currently available at our Wilmington VAMC walk-in clinic. CBOC's are by appointment only.

If you received your COVID shot after September 12, 2023, or your flu shot after August 1, 2023 from a provider outside of the VA, please contact your primary care team by phone, secure message at www.myhealth.va.gov/mhv-portal-web/home or email: VHAWIMVaccination.Report@va.gov to let them know.

Expanded breast cancer screening options through the SERVICE Act

As part of the law, VA will collaborate with the Department of Defense to identify additional locations and time periods of service for toxic exposure, beyond those indicated in the current law. This will expand eligibility for these services in the future.

You may also have heard of the MAMMO Act. This is another law that will assist Veterans in accessing breast cancer screening and mammography screening. The Making Advances in Mammography and Medical Options for Veterans Act provides for expanded research, too.

Traveling Veterans

Are you getting ready to travel? Did you notify your local VA Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT)? Preferably you would notify them 4 to 6 weeks prior to departure, or as soon as you are aware. Early planning will allow time for your local PACT and the Traveling Veteran Coordinator to coordinate your care at the alternate VA health care facility should you need it. If you are unable to make an appointment to see your PACT or provider in person, you may reach them by telephone or through secure messaging in MyHealtheVet at www.myhealthevet.va.gov.

To coordinate your health care with another VA health care facility, you should inform your PACT of the following:

  • travel destination(s), and temporary address
  • valid telephone numbers
  • arrival and departure dates
  • specific care concerns

Your PACT will contact the Traveling Veteran Coordinator, who will assist in coordinating your care at the alternate VA health care facility.

VA Health Chat

You can now schedule your next VA appointment quickly and easily using the VA Health Chat app! Our schedulers in the VISN 4 Clinical Contact Center are available to help you from 3 p.m. to midnight. Download the app or learn more at https://mobile.va.gov/app/va-health-chat.
