VA is now aligned with the Department of the Treasury’s requirement to use electronic funds transfer (EFT) for Civilian Health and Medical Program of VA (CHAMPVA) claim payments, as of August 2023.
If you haven’t moved yet to EFT payment of CHAMPVA claims, we’ve made it easy for you to enroll. By partnering with us and transitioning to EFT payment, you help ensure CHAMPVA claim payments are secure, efficient and compliant with federal mandates.
You can help secure continuity of care to our beneficiaries by going to the VA Financial Services Center (FSC) Customer Engagement Portal to enroll in EFT. You can also call the VA FSC help desk at 877-353-9791.
You are safeguarding access to benefits when you join our commitment to provide world-class health care and benefits that Veteran family members deserve.

The Request for Service (RFS) form you submit to your local VA medical center (VAMC) has been updated. What hasn’t changed is that you must continue to submit an RFS form (10-10172) to your local VAMC for the following:
-
Additional visits or time beyond what is authorized in an active referral (for example, the current authorization is expiring).
-
A new specialty service referral.
-
An additional procedure or service not included in the original Standardized Episode of Care (SEOC).
Important reminder: Your signature (wet or electronic) is required. Forms received by VA without your signature won’t be processed and will be returned to you. If that happens, you must then sign the form and resubmit to VA. To avoid potential future care delays, please sign and date the RFS form on initial submission.
Exemptions
Dental and IVF/ART (In Vitro Fertilization Treatment/Assisted Reproductive Technology) services are exempt from mandatory use of form 10-10172.

Flu vaccines are now available at no-cost to eligible Veterans at all VA medical centers and more than 65,000 in-network community retail pharmacies and urgent care walk-in locations. Please encourage your Veteran patients to get their no-cost flu shot to protect themselves, their families and their community from the flu and related complications.
Flu shots are available through April 2024. You may receive an increase in calls from Veterans asking about flu shots.
To be eligible for a flu shot from a community provider, Veterans must be enrolled in VA health care and have received care from either a VA provider or a member of VA’s Community Care Network (CCN) within the past 24 months. Veterans can call 800-MyVA411 (800-698-2411) then select option 1 (urgent care information), then option 3 (urgent care information) and option 1 (check urgent care eligibility) again. The system will verify their eligibility for the community urgent care benefit, which includes the flu vaccination. We recommend you confirm that your Veteran patients confirm that they are eligible before they go and make them aware that if they are not eligible, they will be responsible for the cost of the vaccine.

Jose was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 1919. He entered the Civilian Pilot Training Program prior to the U.S. entering WWII. In 1942, he began fighter pilot training in the United States Army Air Force. During his time in the Pacific, he flew 20 combat missions in China, Burma and India. He served on active duty until 1947 and was recalled during the Korean War, serving until 1958. Muniz returned to Puerto Rico, joined the Puerto Rico Air National Guard and was appointed as commander of the 198th Fighter Squadron. On July 4, 1960, Muniz volunteered to fly in the Independence Day flyover formations in an F-86D. During takeoff, his plane lost power and, due to low altitude and design of the ejection seats, he was unable to eject safely. In 1963, the Puerto Rico Air National Guard Base in San Juan was renamed Muniz Air National Guard Base in his honor. Read more about him here.

Zelpha served nine years as an Army finance technician and deployed to Iraq when her children were young. At that time, in 2005, there was no Skype or Facetime to help families stay connected. Her job was to deliver advance payments to soldiers who needed it at foreign operating bases across the region. The physical and emotional stress lingered after her deployment, but joining the Million Veteran Program has enabled her to help herself and her community of other Veterans. Read more about her story here.
We honor their service.
