VA celebrates Veterans’ successes in Vocational Rehabilitation

Here at VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, we’re celebrating national VHA Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Vocational Rehabilitation Recognition Week from October 1-7, 2023!
Nationally, CWT provides vocational rehabilitation services to over 57,000 Veterans each year. CWT services are recovery-oriented and focused on each Veteran’s strengths, skills, abilities, needs, goals, and preferences.
CWT services include building job skills and assistance to secure and maintain meaningful employment regardless of the Veteran's disability, diagnosis, symptoms, work history, legal background, or cognitive impairment. Veterans are placed in work assignments or competitive employment within VA and the community through partnerships with employers.
Voc Rehab includes other programs as well such as:
- Community Based Employment Services (CBES), which provides individualized job search assistance, counseling and vocational guidance to assist Veterans with obtaining and maintaining competitive jobs.
- Homeless Veterans Community Employment Services (HVCES), which embeds staff within VA homeless programs to ensure a range of employment services, resources and opportunities are made accessible to Veterans who have experienced homelessness.
Army Veteran Daniel “Danny” Martin, work leader carpenter for the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center, is an amazing example of what’s possible with the CWT program. A former resident of the Domiciliary Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MH RRTP) and New Directions on campus, he now mentors other Veteran CWTs. Read about Danny’s journey in our latest blog post.
Thanks to VA’s CWT and Voc Rehab teams nationwide and business partners for putting Veterans on the road to work.
