PACT Act Deadline

Don't Delay--Apply today! PACT ACT

September 30, 2023. Are you a Veteran who deployed to a combat zone and never enrolled in VA health care? If you were discharged or released between September 11, 2001, and October 1, 2013, you may be eligible to enroll now during a special enrollment period. But act fast—the deadline to apply is September 30, 2023.

September is Suicide Prevention Month

Suicide Prevention Month

Reaching out is tough. It is okay to ask for help.

As Suicide Prevention Month continues, the VA and Ad Council have released a new public service advertisement (PSA) as a part of the ongoing national “Don’t Wait. Reach Out.” campaign. The new materials, informed by and featuring Veterans, encourage Veterans to reach out before life’s challenges become overwhelming. Veterans were trained to put a mission or others before themselves, which can make it harder for Veterans to accept or ask for help. That’s why the new PSA poses the question: “When was the last time you asked for help?”

Don’t wait. Reach out. If you or a Veteran you know needs support, visit VA.gov/REACH for resources today.

We can all play a part in preventing suicide. Help us spread the word this Suicide Prevention month with the “Don’t Wait. Reach Out” campaign toolkit VA.gov/REACH/spread-the-word.

Annual Suicide Screening

Veteran safety is important to VA. We care about YOU.

Suicide prevention is VA’s top clinical priority, and each of us play a crucial role. Our providers play one of those roles, conducting an annual suicide screening of all enrolled Veterans. The process ensures that all members of your health care team are equipped to identify Veterans at risk for suicide, connecting them to the lifesaving care they need. This annual screen could occur at any clinic across the hospital or clinics.

Veteran suicide prevention starts with YOU! Thank you for playing a crucial role in helping prevent Veteran suicide.

Fasting No Longer Required For Most Labs

Vials of blood

Veterans will no longer need to fast for most routine blood testing at VA medical centers and outpatient clinics.

The announcement came from the VA Office of Clinical Services, which highlighted that most routine blood tests, including those for managing high cholesterol and diabetes, no longer require overnight fasting for the results to be accurate.

Women have served the U.S. military since the American Revolution. They served combat, disguised as men during the American Revolution and Civil Wars. They served on the front lines during the World Wars.

This year, we celebrate 100 years of health care for women Veterans. Today, more than 2 million women Veterans live in America, and more than 600,000 women Veterans receive health care at VA each year. Here at the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System, we offer the full spectrum of comprehensive health and gender-specific care including gynecology, maternity care, childbirth education classes, postpartum support, ultrasounds, mammograms, lifestyle wellness services, mental health care and counseling.
