April is Month of the Military Child when we celebrate the over 1.6 million children with a parent serving in the military1 and the over 2.1 million children with a Veteran parent.2 For many Veterans parenting is their most important mission. VA has a variety of resources to support Veteran families’ health and well-being.

Parenting for Veterans
Parenting for Veterans is a parenting skills website operated by the Veterans Health Administration. With worksheets, tips, guidebooks, and videos featuring real Veteran families, Parenting for Veterans helps Veterans strengthen their skills in five key areas: communication; discipline; emotional and physical challenges; emotions and behaviors; and managing stress.

Veteran Parenting Toolkit: Together Building Strong Families
Whether you’re dealing with the terrible twos or helping launch your teenager into adulthood, there’s a downloadable Veteran parenting toolkit for you. Developed by experts at the South Central Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) Together Building Strong Families toolkits are available for parents of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school-aged children, and teenagers.
There’s also a toolkit for clinicians working with Veteran families!
