SPRINT is the Suicide Prevention Research Impact NeTwork, which was originally funded by VA HSRD in 2019 but merged this year with a newly funded CSRD Suicide Prevention Clinical Resource Center. The overall mission of the jointly funded SPRINT is to accelerate VA suicide prevention research to improve care and reduce suicidal thoughts and behaviors among Veterans. The Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) has invited the VA to submit nominees for the 2021 and 2022 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). Nominees can be funded investigators from any of the four ORD services: Biomedical Laboratory R&D (BLRD), Clinical Science R&D (CSRD), Health Services R&D (HSRD), or Rehabilitation R&D (RRD).
Nominees will be assessed by ORD professional and scientific staff on the basis and quality of their scientific work, along with their commitment to innovative research and the VA. Nominees will be approved by the CRADO, Dr. Rachel Ramoni, and transmitted to the Under Secretary for Health and to the Secretary of the VA for final approval.

This opportunity is open to all VA employees who are currently affiliated with an ORD program/service including Research Services, Programs, Centers and VA investigators with current ORD-funded projects to request funds for education that will promote and support diversity, equity, and inclusion in their workforce.

These will be offered as Type 3 supplements to active VA Merits funded by BLRD, CSRD, HSRD, and RRD. Due dates and budgets for both supplements:
