Clinical Investigator, VISN 19 Rocky Mountain MIRECC for Suicide Prevention, Aurora CO
April 11, 2023 1pm – 2pm EST / 10am - 11am PST
Program Description:
Nearly one-half of U.S. veterans have access to a household firearm. Because of the association between firearm access and suicide risk, and that more than 70% of veteran suicides are attributable to firearm injury, evidence-based clinical efforts aimed at mitigating suicide risk include efforts to promote voluntary reductions in access to firearms and other lethal means. The goal of this live virtual presentation is to describe the burden of firearm suicide among the U.S. veteran population, highlight the evidence linking firearm access to suicide risk, and provide framework for interprofessional healthcare team members to better relate the potential benefits and risk of firearm ownership during clinical conversations.
